Rucha Pathak
Producer for Fox Star Studios and then Excel Entertainment

We shot for about a week in Paris for our film Dil Bechara. We shot in Paris because the story demanded it. It’s a remake of Fault in Our Stars. But we had to shoot in Paris because the girl in the film—our lead character—wants to go to Paris to meet a singer who’s there. So it fit really beautifully into the script. In the official Fault in Our Stars, she goes to Amsterdam. We shifted it to Paris because it’s the city of love… We didn’t shoot in season time. We shot in the miserable cold in early January, 2019… So the beautiful New Year’s Eve Christmas lights were still up. It was really cold, but it was really beautiful. The Eiffel Tower was lit beautifully. So it just happened to fit in really well with the script and that’s why we shot there.

What we generally do is have our own production. We got in touch with the line producer from Paris wand took them through the script to see what we need to shoot there.

It was really great. They had Indian food and continental food. It was quite delightful because the Indian crew was eating continental food and the French crew was eating Indian food. Our Indian crew also said they hadn’t tasted such good Indian food in India as the French people had made there.

Nobody stops to stare when we shoot abroad, because they don’t recognise them. You can shoot peacefully.
