Yes Boss

Driven by his ambition, Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) becomes a lackey for Sidharth (Aditya Pancholi), his wealthy boss, helping him carry on his secret affairs with multiple women without the knowledge of his wife. In return, Sidharth keeps giving him huge amounts of money and promises to make him wealthy. Rahul meets Seema (Juhi Chawla) in a chance encounter, and they both realise that they share a dream of becoming rich and having a good life. Rahul tells his friend that he has fallen in love with Seema. The plot takes a twist when Sidharth sees Seema modelling on a ramp and tells Rahul that he must help him get this girl. Rahul plays along and helps the two get connected. The rest of the film deals with both Rahul and Seema’s ethical dilemmas about their ‘get rich quickly at any cost’ view of life.

    Film Location Analysis

    By Shikha Jhingan

The song "Choodi baji hai" was filmed at various sites in Switzerland. It appears in the film before the protagonists travel to Switzerland. Rahul and Seema are in his humble home in Bombay, pretending to be a newlywed couple. The song is introduced as Rahul starts fantasising about Seema. We are transported to a panoramic vista of the Alpine mountains in Switzerland. This bucolic view of green meadows and sloping hills dotted with log huts is very similar to the song sequence in Yash Chopra’s Darr, with the same stars. But since the song is grafted as Rahul’s wishful fantasy of having Seema as his wife, we see her dressed in Indian clothes, dancing like a Hindu celestial nymph, through several costume changes. After the song ends, the narrative takes us back to the city of Bombay and the ‘reality’ of the protagonist’s lives.

The narrative then moves to Switzerland, where Seema, Rahul, and their boss, Sidharth, arrive with the entire crew to shoot an advertisement. The plot gets twisted when Rahul tries to prevent Sidharth from getting close to Seema. By hoodwinking his boss, Rahul takes Seema for an evening out in the city of Bern. Rahul sings, ‘Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaun,’ to humour Seema.

Choreographed by Saroj Khan, "Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaun" is in complete contrast to the ‘Choodi Baji Hai’ song in terms of its visual style. Here, we see a young modern couple having a fun evening in the city of Bern, with people either going about their own business in the background or watching the two stars. Seema is seen wearing a sleeveless yellow dress that goes well with her character as a professional model. Prominent among the locations is the Zytglogger Tower, a World Heritage Site in Bern. Unlike the typical Bollywood songs of couples running around the trees, this song evokes the city, where cars, the footpath, the driveway, a street corner music performance, and the city tower are not just backdrops but places of tactile encounters. The song takes us to several locations in canton Bern, including the Schadau castle of Thun, Scahadau Park, a lakeside area, and a short train journey from Zweisimmen to Montreux, but the temporal logic of the song is maintained using the same attire.
