Mersal

Vijay stars in a triple role, where he plays Vetrimaaran and his two sons—Vetri, a magician and Maaran, a doctor. The story covers events in the lives of both the father and his sons, as they try to fight a corrupt medical practice headed by a corrupt doctor Daniel Arokiaraj (S.J. Suryah). Daniel, in the past, had performed a Caesarean section on Vetrimaaraan’s wife Aishwarya (Nithya Menen) to exploit money from him, as a result of which she died while giving birth to her sons. In retaliation, Vetrimaaran tries to take Daniel on but is killed by his goons. In the present, both Vetri and Maaran come together to kill Daniel and expose his corruption in the medical industry.

The song, featuring Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal was shot in various locations across Gdańsk, Poland and matched with special effects in post-production. The making-of videos highlight the extensive degree of special effects used to enhance the already splendid locations. These special effects included flights of pigeons, flower-lined avenues, animated hearts, butterflies, rabbits and moving statues.  The Tanglish (a mixture of Tamil and English) lyrics of the song introduced a new lingo to young audiences who loved the “massy” hero Vijay courting the “classy” heroine Kajal with crossover words like “speakitta” and “walkitta”. The sequence opens with a low angle view of the giant Amber Ferris wheel, framed against a sunny sky overpowering the actors. The camera then follows Vijay and his chorus of dancers as they serenade the heroine in broad daylight, through the building lined avenues. The dance track takes on a frenzy as the actors appear in front of the European Solidarity Centre, dressed in black leather biker costumes. Some close shots of their dancing are framed against the solid façade of the Centre. The song cuts between costumes and props - black motorbikes, a red convertible, and a dainty white ladies’ bicycle. The serenading continues through the avenues of Long Market. This time, Vijay and his dancers are armed with violins as long shots capture the vistas of the historic Long Market. As the scene shifts to the massive football stadium the Stadion Energa, emptied out for the film shoot, Kajal is dressed in sporty Ts, shorts and sneakers of a cheerleader, joined by a chorus of similarly dressed dancers who recreate the energy of a European football match in progress. Several crane and top angle shots reveal the magnitude of the large stadium and its amber exteriors (amber is a mineral deposit common to the Baltic coastline). The song returns to the Long Market and intercuts between the actors with background extras in period costumeswhite blouses and red satin skirts through cobbled flower-lined streets conjuring the medieval history of the Long Market’s Royal Way and the modern market square now lined by shops, cafes, restaurants, and other tourist attractions.
