    Film Location Analysis

    By Shikha Jhingan

The song ‘Sachi Muchi’ was shot in Budapest, Hungary. The decision to shoot in Budapest was driven partly by the script, as the country is known for wrestling. With this decision, the producers were able to cut their production costs. Further, they could hire the local crew that helped them get rebates for shooting and cut down their costs. The song is cleverly woven into the story of the newlywed wrestling couple enjoying their intimate moments with each other in a foreign location where they can play their professional sport as well as enjoy some leisure time.

The Budapest sequence begins with an aircraft landing, and then we see the protagonists’ arrive at the airport. The montage sequence is built through moving images or the movement of objects or characters, creating a kinetic energy that symbolises the passion of their romance as well as their agile and athletic personas.

Budapest is shown to us through Aarfa’s (Anushka Sharma's) point of view, who gestures at the view outside the bus in which they are travelling, asking Sultan to look out. Next, we get a reverse-angle shot that captures the Szechenyi Chain Bridge from the moving bus. The third shot repeats the same angle but from an aerial point of view. The bridge becomes distant, as the camera now captures both the city and the bus in which the two are travelling.

The next shot captures the international wrestling tournament arena, where we see the façade of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, dressed up with flags and banners. The background song retreats as we see Salman giving an interview to a journalist after winning the tournament.

As we return to the song, we see the couple moving around the city, trying out food at open-air restaurants. The protagonists are placed close to the camera, with the architectural sites of Budapest seen in the background. In the last part of the song, the location shifts to the town of Szentendre, near Budapest, where we see the couple shopping, walking around the main square, and going to a nightclub.

    Additional Information & Links

According to line producer Sudhanshu Kumar, the entire shooting of the song was wrapped in three days. The main crew arrived one week in advance to finalise and work out the locations. However, a tentative list of locations had already been decided on the basis of videos and photographs. The shoot did not require any sets. For shooting the song, Vaibhavi Merchant was hired for choreography and though it is a background song, the track was played back during shooting to help the actors perform better. To play back the song through sound amplification, the location managers had to get permission.

According to Sudhanshu, as the word had spread, several people of Indian origin had already reached the hotel to see their favourite star. One family waited outside the hotel for four days to meet him.
