A call centre executive named Jimmy (Saif Ali Khan), who also teaches English, is approached by Pooja Singh (Kareena Kapoor) for classes. Jimmy is drawn to Pooja and agrees, only to realise the English lessons are meant for Pooja's boss, Lakhan Singh Ballebaaz, also known as Bhaiyyaji (Anil Kapoor). Pooja tells Jimmy that she has debts and hopes to settle them through her work with Bhayyaji. Jimmy and Pooja fall in love and run away with Bhaiyyaji's money.

When Jimmy informs the call centre about his decision to leave, he learns that Bhaiyyaji is a dreaded gangster. He returns to meet Pooja and realises she has escaped with the money. Another gangster, Bachchan Pandey (Akshay Kumar), is hired by Bhayyaji to find Jimmy, and when he finds the latter, the two travel to Haridwar to find Pooja. Meanwhile, Pooja has hidden the money in different parts of the country. Pooja and Jimmy become allies in another attempt to get the money. Pooja, however, realises that Bachchan is her childhood friend and falls in love with him. Bachchan collects the recovered money to return to Bhayyaji and does not realise that Jimmy has replaced the bags with stones. Pooja pleads with Jimmy to help. They rush to meet Bhayyaji, where Pooja stabs him for killing her father to take over the gang. At the end of the film, Jimmy has his own call centre, while Bachchan and Pooja decide to marry.

    Film Location Analysis

    By Kaushik Bhaumik

The Greek sequences in the film are entirely song sequences.

The song ‘Dil Haara’ is a fantasy song where the hero and heroine meet in India and then they fantasise romancing in an ethereal world shot in Greece. It is a trance song, clearly inspired by the ‘Satrangi Re’ song in Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se (1998). It is shot on two beaches on the island of Milos–Sarakiniko Beach and Firopotamos Beach. Most of it is shot on Sarakiniko, while short sequences in the ruins of an ancient building (not identified yet) on top of a hill in Firopotamos. The song involves a bevy of male and female extras, with frequent costume changes denoting a colour of emotion. There is a shot that establishes a concordance between the blue eyes of the heroine and the blue of the sea and the sky.

The song ‘Chhaliya’ features Kareena Kapoor doing a song-and-dance routine between beaches, a yacht on the sea, and through the streets of Nafplio in the Greek Peloponnese. The song begins with her coming out of the blue Aegean Sea in a green bikini. It then moves to various other beaches, the heroine accompanied by a set of female background dancers. The sequences in the town wind through narrow lanes lined with stereotypical touristy Cycladic houses in white, lined by the famous blue paint. This might indicate as much as the mysterious aura of the girl, as her twisty behaviour in a twisty thriller. There are sequences on the seafront, in one of which we can see the Venetian Castle of Bourtzi in the background. The song then goes back to non-descript beaches and ends with a night scene on the street of the town.

In the two songs, some attempt has been made to connect the bright sunny quality of the desert landscape of India, in which it is actually set, with the brightness of light in the Aegean, as well as a feel of ‘folkiness’ joining Rajasthan, in India, and Greece.
